Communications Strategy, Associate Director

Position Summary:

The Communications Strategy, Associate Director is the bridge between the client and internal communications – the face of the account. They are responsible for digesting client goals and objectives and translating them into a dynamic communications plan. This candidate must be able to develop concrete action steps, and manage a team of a supervisors, planners and assistant planners through various projects. The AMD is one of the primary points of contact for clients on requests, and is responsible for having a firm grasp of both strategic and functional media knowledge.

This role offers frequent client contact, ownership of the integrated plan, and the opportunity to lead project management and cross-media integration.

Responsibilities:

  • Interprets communications/media strategy and translates into communication planning action steps
  • Oversees/manages supervisors and planners and day-to-day operation of all media activity
  • Demonstrates initiative by researching and identifying valuable information/insights to improve media product
  • Determines and supervises the best possible implementation of all approved communication plans and projects
  • Acts as primary point of contact for client’s requests
  • Learns and understands all phases of the clients’ marketing objectives and provides media recommendations to deliver against these objectives
  • Understands all proprietary research tools/processes and applies learning during communication planning
  • Prepares and presents communication plans, as needed, including objectives, strategy, rationale, post-campaign analysis, and all backup materials
  • Establish strong working relationship with partner agencies (where/when applicable), delivering a seamless communications process
  • Demonstrates agility via multi-tasking – multiple brands, strategic development and plan stewardship, management of Planner
  • Develops collaborative working relationship with all implementation teams, ensuring they fully understand brand’s communication objectives/strategies
  • Trains and develops Supervisors, Planners and Associates, including:
    • Effective level of delegation
    • Managing group dynamics/relationships between Supervisors, Planners & Associates
    • Establishing and demonstrating strong leadership skills
    • Evaluate performance of direct reports
    • Check work of team members to ensure accuracy
    • Identifies opportunities for career development
    • Establish strong interviewing skills
    • Timely delivery of all work

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • A minimum of 7 years of 360-degree media strategy and activation experience across both Traditional and Digital. Proven deep knowledge of TV planning essential
  • Ability to prioritize and organize projects for self and direct reports
  • Excellent understanding of all media types, strategy and plan architecture fundamentals
  • Proven ability in training and leadership capability
  • An up-beat energy level that brings new and exciting ideas to the planning function
  • Passionate for the marketing, advertising and media business and excited to learn more
  • Must have analytical ability and strategic curiosity
  • Must have experience with direct response campaigns, including retargeting campaigns, network buys, programmatic buying and optimization
  • Experience with branding campaigns, including site direct negotiation, implementation and evaluation preferred
  • Strong communication, negotiation and analytical skills required
  • Ability to manage client communication and projects with little supervision from senior leadership
  • Must have knowledge of Google Analytics
