Director of Programmatic


This person must be ready for account management and optimization activities, and have a history of working autonomously and leading a team. The candidate must have excellent analytical skills to make important optimization decisions.

Position Summary:

The Director of Programmatic is the primary manager of day-to-day account strategy and campaign activation and optimization for the programmatic department. They are responsible for digesting client goals and objectives and translating them into a dynamic campaign strategy plan. This candidate must be able to develop concrete action steps, and manage account growth through various stages. The director is responsible for having a firm grasp on media opportunities in the programmatic landscape with the ability to manage the execution of media on behalf of the account teams

The core qualities we seek are:

  • Experience trafficking, executing and optimizing programmatic media
  • Experience buying media through various DSPs; DBM, MediaMath, The Trade Desk, Amazon, AOL etc…
  • Experience working with industry leading Ad serving technologies; DCM, Sizmek, Kochava, etc…
  • Ability to communicate programmatic insights and learnings to account teams and clients
  • Strong leadership presence to promote continued growth of programmatic knowledge across the agency

  • Oversees/manages programmatic manager(s) and day-to-day operation of all media activity
  • Guides programmatic team in account creation i.e. site tagging, creative tag and campaign tactic development
  • Demonstrates initiative by researching and identifying valuable information/insights to improve media product
  • Determines and supervises the best possible implementation of all approved media plans and objectives
  • Acts as primary point of contact for client requests from the account teams
  • Support account teams with data and optimization write ups across the accounts for client understanding
  • Evaluates new technologies and understands account applications and benefits for Generator Media
  • Learns and understands all phases of the clients’ marketing objectives and provides programmatic media recommendations to deliver against these objectives
  • Understands all proprietary research tools/processes and applies learning during campaign planning
  • Prepares and presents media plans to account teams based on brand objective and campaign details
  • Develops collaborative working relationship with all account teams, ensuring full understanding of programmatic capabilities


  • BS/BA Degree
  • A minimum 8 years of agency experience with at least 3-5 years of programmatic media buying experience, with excellent written and verbal communication skills (samples may be required)
  • Ability to prioritize and organize projects for self and direct reports
  • Excellent understanding of media, strategy and plan architecture fundamentals
  • Proven ability in training and leadership capability
  • An up-beat energy level that brings new and exciting ideas to the planning function
  • Must have analytical ability and strategic curiosity
  • Experience working with DCM or other relevant 3rd party ad-server
  • Experience trafficking and managing media using Demand-Side Platforms
  • Solid understanding of online metrics and strong analytical skills to create innovative solutions
  • Strong analytical abilities and quantitative skills, including math proficiency
  • Good knowledge of the programmatic landscape, including open exchange, PMP and guaranteed buys, for both branding and direct response campaigns
  • Strong skills in Excel, Word and PowerPoint with general Web based interfaces
  • Experience with data visualization tools (i.e. Tableau) a plus
